Average Electric Bill

The average electric bill for a common American residential unit is approximately $95.66. The utility bills come like clockwork in every month to our homes and offices. We just pay them and forget about it until the next one comes. We never think about them until it’s time to pay them. They don’t just record our consumption of electricity in that particular month, but they are also useful to keep track of our energy consumption so that we can and will be aware if there is sudden increase in charges. The electricity bill for every residential unit is different as per its usage and many other factors, such as the number of people living in the house.  If we compare the electricity bills for residential units which are similar in different respects we can find the average electricity bill.

The electricity bill depends on two things and they are the consumption in kilowatts per hour and the rate per kwh. Among the cost of consumption, the total amount actually depends on many things, mainly being the quality of heating in the house, efficiency of the appliances, and the usage of those appliances. For example, if you have a hot tub in your home then the electricity bill for your house is going to be much higher as the hot tub uses a significant amount of electricity, compared to all other appliances and products.

The quality of the appliances which are used daily in our homes can also affect the electricity bill. If the appliances are old and not in good condition, then they will consume more electricity compared to the new appliances which are now advertised to be much more efficient. The average electricity bill helps to identify the areas where you can save energy and reduce consumption. For example, if you use CFL light bulbs instead of the normal, outdated bulbs you will get the same amount of light, maybe more, but at a much lower consumption of electricity. Just remember to turn off the lights in a room when no one is there as well as turn off the television or stereos when no one is watching or listening to them. This will save a lot of energy and will result in a reduced total amount for your home. Along with saving money for your household you are also saving energy and ultimately saving the environment. You can also bring down your electricity bill by following simple steps like checking the insulation of the windows and changing the wiring of the house if it is old (this can make a massiv difference if your house is older). These things go a long way when energy saving is the issue under consideration. Pay attention to your monthly bill and if it is more than your personal average it means that you need to pay attention to the usage and try to find out the reasons behind the increased consumption.
